Published Aug 08, 2017While there's no word on whether or not he'll be shaving his magnificent beard, David Letterman is set to come out of retirement to host a new talk show on Netflix.
The streaming service revealed that the six-episode series will feature Letterman conducting "in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humour." The yet-to-be-titled series is expected to premiere next year, with Variety reporting that production will begin this fall.
"I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix," Letterman said in a statement. "Here's what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely."
Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos added, "Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together. David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can't wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting. We'll have to see if he keeps the beard."
Letterman, 70, signed off as the host of CBS's The Late Show in 2015. Since then, he had been leading his best retirement life.
